Stargazing World Record Attempt
Date: June 7, 2018 Posted by: Alana Ripepi
On Wednesday 23 May, over 300 people gathered at TAS to participate in the World Record Attempt for the Most People Stargazing Simultaneously Across Multiple Locations.
TAS was proud to support the ABC and the ANU in their attempt to break the record. We hosted two venues – Kewarra Beach oval and White Rock oval – and welcomed people from the community to join us. At Kewarra Beach, Astronomer Dr David Nicholls from Mt Stromlo Observatory, Canberra educated the guests on our FNQ skies, while the Year 12 Rock Band entertained guests at White Rock. The night was supported by many teachers and parents, and we appreciate their help.
Daniel Pycroft, a participant at Kewarra Beach, put together this video to capture the feel of the night; can you spot yourself in the crowd?
