STEM IS A WINNER: 2016 AIA ARCHITECTURE AWARDS – FAR NORTH QUEENSLAND, REGIONAL PROJECT OF THE YEAR
Date: July 6, 2016 Posted by: Alana Ripepi
Our new Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) facility designed by Charles Wright Architects won top honours at the Australian Institute of Architects’ 2016 Far North Queensland Regional Architecture Awards.
The Australian Institute of Architects reports that the concept is innovative and cutting edge; and that our science facility is a new prototype for educational buildings in the tropics.

As a new Science facility, sustainability was core to the concept for the project. From the feature sunshade façade to the photovoltaic panel array on the roof to the VRV cooling systems and advanced energy monitoring, every design decision was about efficiency. The exposed engineering services throughout the facility are used as building science educational tool.
Congratulations to all involved; a credit to our architect and team.
