Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation
Students at TAS can obtain a qualification in outdoor recreation by enrolling in the Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation program. This in depth course includes a range of outdoor pursuits that help to develop students into future outdoor leaders.
First Year Students
Term I
Hiking introduction and day trips to Pete’s Falls, Glacier Rock and Centenary Lakes for navigation exercises. Class visits from local outdoor gear specialists.
Expedition for three days to Stannary Hills and the Walsh River
Term II
White water canoeing introduction with day trips down the Mulgrave River and pool sessions at TAS.
Three day expedition on the Mulgrave River.
Term III
Climbing, abseiling and caving introduction with day trips to Aeroglen Quarry and Barron Gorge.
Expedition for three days to Chillagoe for caving and abseiling.
Term IV
Students are introduced to kayaking in preparation for Term V next year.
Two day Remote Area First Aid Course.
Second Year Students
Term V
Introduction to white water kayaking with day trips down the Mulgrave River and pool sessions at TAS.
Expedition for three days to the Mulgrave River.
Term VI
Advanced hiking focus with day trips to the Blue Arrow and Walsh’ Pyramid.
Three day journey expedition to summit and traverse Mt Emerald with two waterfall abseils.
Term VII
Advanced climbing and abseiling with day trips to Aeroglen quarry. Update resuscitation qualifications
Climbing and abseiling expedition for three days to Mt Stewart Townsville with indoor climbing session at Anaconda.
Term VIII
Graduation
