Principals Blog: Edition 1, 2020

Dear TAS community,

As a Principal, receiving communications such as the one I recently received is one of the role’s great pleasures. I was reading through the report from World Challenge expedition leader, Tony Daggar, on our Year 11 group recently returned from their India expedition. Tony is one of the most recognised and experienced leaders at the World Challenge organisation, having led around 28 expeditions over a number of years.

He provided the following feedback:

Maturity: “The Trinity Anglican Students unreservedly embraced themselves into this ‘Broad Adventure’ experience, which enabled me (as the expedition leader) to empower them immediately with higher levels of responsibility and higher levels of ownership (than would be normally expected of students undertaking a school trip) for the activities and tasks that needed to be undertaken in order to maintain the expedition itinerary.”

Diversity: “These Trinity Anglican School students embraced the cultural differences and demonstrated levels of maturity beyond their years, with behaviours and attitudes that demonstrated respect towards each other, but also to those they interacted with.”

Team Work: “The experiential learning approach adopted within this expedition permitted (risk assessed and non-harmful) mistakes to occur. However, it was through the inclusion of team performance reviews and the committed participation of the students within these reviews that learning, and growth was achieved. Their willingness to engage in mature balanced debate and a mature evaluation processes, enabled them (as a team) to collectively improve their performance regularly, with each student playing their part.”

Overall: “Because of the mature attitudes displayed within this group, it was a privilege to be part of this team and a privilege to mentor the students both individually, but also collectively, through a team development and leadership processes.”

What a wonderful reflection on the caliber and attitudes of our expeditioners (students and staff) and a wonderful reflection on the TAS student culture. We are very proud of all your achievements.
