TAS Music
About the program

Music is studied as part of the Prep to Year 8 Curriculum. From Year 9 onwards, students can choose to pursue music pathways as electives or as part of the following co-curricular programs:

Concerts and Events
Every term, musicians at TAS take part in a major concert performance or the annual ‘Rock under the stars’ event. TAS musicians also perform at major school events such as Trinity Day, Gala Night and Speech Night, as well as offsite concerts and community performances throughout the year. TAS choirs and ensembles often participate in the Cairns and District Junior Eisteddfod.

TAS Music Workshop
TAS Music Workshop, often held at the start of the year, provides students with further opportunities for development, education and performance practice. In both 2019 and 2020, students worked under the instruction of Professor Rob McWilliams – a renowned music educator.

Instrumental Tuition
Many students also receive instrumental tuition from private tutors who offer professional, individual tuition during school hours. Students from Year 2 to Year 12 can apply for lessons on piano, violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, tuba, drums, guitar and voice.

TAS Orchestra, Choirs & Bands

  • Choirs are an integral part of the TAS music program. TAS Voices is open to all secondary school students and both primary school campuses have a choir for students in Prep to Year 2 and Year 3 to 6.
  • Orchestral Band combines the talents of our top orchestral musicians from Year 6 to 12.
  • TAS String Ensemble is open to all string players in secondary school and experienced primary students.
  • TAS Rock Band is offered to students from Years 2 to 12 and is a feature at the annual ‘Rock Under the Stars’ performance
  • Small Ensembles – Allow students to develop their musical talent in small groups. There is a great variety available, including a string quartet, piano trio, clarinet choir, flute ensemble and sax pack. These groups perform on many occasions, both at school and community events.
TAS Drama
About the program

TAS Drama encourages students to develop a love for the dramatic arts by learning how to infuse technical skills with creative inspiration. Throughout the program, students develop acting skills and techniques and participate in workshops and productions ranging from Shakespeare and mime to contemporary plays.

Drama Productions

Each year, TAS produces and directs a school production at the Bishop Centre for Performing Arts, the school’s fully equipped Performing Arts Complex. The student technical crew supports these performances, and additional staff members, including qualified choreographers and dance teachers, are contracted when needed. Primary school students also have the opportunity to craft their skills in annual recitals and community performances. Recent productions include Peter Pan and Fame JR.

Art and Design

About the program

Throughout the curriculum, students develop a passion for art and design by learning how to create using different techniques and a wide variety of mediums.

The TAS Art program is also enhanced by visits from professional artists and excursions to local exhibitions. Students are also encouraged to enter both local and national art competitions, as well as display their work at school promotional evenings and art shows.

Each year, the Senior Visual Art students also participate in competitions and exhibitions that include Cairns Show – Photography and Wearable Art Competitions, Write About Art by Flying Art Competition, Creative Generation – ENERGY Exhibition at the TANKS Art Centre and Receive < Respond.
