FNQ Interschool Chess Championships Report Rd 1 2020

Round 1 of the Far North Queensland Interschool Chess Championships was held on 3 March. The Bishop Centre was bursting with enthusiasm and intellectual rigour as the best chess players in our region participated in the game that presents a truly equal playing field.

The Trinity Anglican School teams applied high levels of focus, determination and grit. Sportsmanship, good grace and kindness are values we continue to uphold in our team. Chess at TAS provides opportunities for students to apply and develop their skills in chess.

Special congratulations to all students who made their debut. Highlights are listed below:

Primary A Grade (11 teams with 44 players)

Team Results:

    • First TAS WRJ Keerthiratne: Adeepa Keerthiratne, Lucas Qu, Liam O’Shea and Pragyan Pandey
    • Third TAS WRJ Coombs: John Phan, Hayden Coombs, Dean Coombs and Shivansh Pandey

Individual Results:

    • First Place Lucas Qu 7 wins out of 7
    • Second Place Adeepa Keerthiratne 7 wins out of 7
    • Third Place John Phan
    • Fourth Place Hayden Coombs

Primary B Grade (10 teams with 40 players)

Team Results:    

    • First TAS WRJ Baig: Treyton Muirhead, Raiyaan Baig, Jacob Nyuyen, and Isabella Clague

Individual Results:

    • First Place Treyton Muirhead 7 wins out of 7
    • Second Place Raiyaan Baig
    • Fourth Place Vivian Zhang

Primary C Grade (16 Teams with 64 players)

Team Results:

    • First TAS WRJ Nandi: Lyla Schiller, Alana Hill, Imon Nandi and Eshaan Rajpal
    • Second TAS WRJ Ruellan: Arawyn Ruellan, Violet Reeves, Noah Turnbull and Abigail Barnes

Individual Results:

    • First Place Arawyn Ruellan
    • Second Place Lyla Schiller
    • Fourth Place Alana Hill

Primary D Grade (16 Teams with 64 players)

Team Results:

    • First TAS WRJ Palmer: Angelina Francini O’Hagan, Violet Palmer, Brodie Beatty and Stella Ge
    • Second TAS WRJ Leroy: Rebecca Leroy, Cameron Ezard, Shritan Saireddy and Ted Lawie
    • Third TAS WRJ Nguyen: Isabel Raubenheimer, Ellie Richardson, Ryan McDonald and Ava Nguyen

    • First Place Isabel Raubenheimer

High School (27 Teams with 108 players)
